Underground Utility Diversion and Service Installation

CMD Building Contractor Ltd delivered a complete civil-engineering and underground utility package at Trent Manor Farm in Sherborne, Dorset. The entire package, including the utility routes, access crossovers and final reinstatement, was successfully completed within an eight-day programme.

CMD set out and machine-excavated approximately 500 metres of service trenches before preparing the routes for the water, telecommunications and electrical installations. The works included laying approximately 500 metres of barrier water pipe and 450 metres of 65mm BT ducting, together with the associated access boxes and service connections.

The electrical works included constructing a 2.5m × 2m HV joint pit, laying approximately 220 metres of 185mm² waveform cable to the mains connection point and installing a further 30 metres of three-phase service cable from the joint location into the newly constructed property.

CMD laid, surrounded and protected the electrical cables with fine sand and prepared the joint pit and cable ends for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN). SSEN subsequently completed the authorised jointing, fusing, termination and final connection to the electricity network.

Following the utility installations, CMD completed the associated crossovers, selected backfilling, compaction, Type 1 sub-base and full asphalt reinstatement. The complete package was delivered from initial excavation through to final reinstatement and handover in eight days.
